Visual Studio 2012 RC Released

Yes, it is official. Microsoft has named the next version of their premiere development tool Visual Studio 2012. The Release Candidate was just released on MSDN. I knew it was forthcoming shortly, but did not realize it was quite this soon. You can also watch this page for an update of the Contact Manager API sample.

What’s New? I don’t have all of the new bits, but here are a few:

  • Some color added in since the beta (this was a major sticking point for many who tried the beta)
  • MVC improvements
  • The Web API is now folded into MVC
  • Web API improvements for API documentation and more
  • More async for ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC
  • Web Apps: New methods of handling certain types of “config” items
  • Additional Razor syntax

Have not gotten a good chance to play heavily, but I am a bit stoked we are this far along. Awaiting RTM for even more goodness?

UPDATE: Just found an update by a softie on the goodness in the RC.

Peace and Grace,
Greg
